  • What is Maa Boli?

    Maa Boli is an online Punjabi learning program. Our strengths, passion for education, and rigorous preparation are what sets us apart. Maa Boli is specifically designed for kids and adolescents to learn Punjabi via zoom in small group classes with a professional instructor. We offer two courses: “Speaking” and “Reading & Writing”, both with live lessons and self-study practice. Each child will receive a Maa Boli Binder which includes a pencil case, flashcards, lesson review sheets, and access to online games. What are you waiting for?   • How does Maa Boli work?

    Maa Boli utilizes and implements child-friendly material and engaging instructors to make learning Punjabi easy and fun. Online classes take place twice a week, in small groups, through zoom. Our instructors use conversation-based learning ensuring every child gets an opportunity to practice speaking Punjabi with age-appropriate peers. Students can enjoy classes from their home at their own comfort level! Between lessons, students practice using our flashcards, lesson review sheets, and online games. Our binder will be available to the student upon registering for a course. After each class, parents receive an email with words their child has learned along with conversation starters to help them begin speaking Punjabi as a family.   • What ages is it for?

    Our curriculum is designed for children between the ages of 6 to 17. Maa Boli is safe, secure, and fun!

  • Is Maa Boli the best program for my child?

    Yes! If you want your child to learn Punjabi and connect with their culture, don’t look any further. We are here to help! Maa Boli courses span complete beginner to advanced levels, so whether you’ve learned the language before or not, we’ve got you covered.

  • What topics are covered?

    Both of our courses, “Speaking” and “Reading & Writing”, include 4 levels each. Each level covers specific topics. To get details on what will be covered in each level please check out “Our Courses” page.

  • How do we teach?

    Every Maa Boli class is different and covers a different topic, appealing to the interests and language level of your child. Often the class will start with the instructor and children welcoming one another, talking about their day, and reviewing material from previous lessons. Next, they will dive into the topic of the day and learn new words, new sentences, and practice speaking with one another. Material will be taught through slideshows, games, songs, and pictures. A few minutes before the end of the session the instructor will wrap up by reviewing new words learned through games and activities.

  • How long are the courses?

    Both of our courses are split into 4 levels each. Each level takes one term (5 months) to complete. For more information, please check out “Our Courses” page. Our courses will be highlighted so when they click on it, it takes them to that page

  • If the learning content is too easy or hard for my child, what can I do?

    Please connect with our director, Harpreet Gill, and she will help ensure your child is enrolled in the correct course and level. Send her a message or schedule a call with her by clicking here!

  • Are classes listed in my time zone?

    All of our classes are listed in Eastern Time. Maa Boli is offered anywhere in North America, therefore if you live in a different time zone, please still enroll but be aware of the time differences and enroll accordingly.

  • Can I purchase one month at a time?

    At Maa Boli, all of our classes are offered for a minimum of 5 months, therefore you cannot purchase one month at a time. A lot of effort was put into creating the courses the way they are. To ensure the best outcome for your child and to see progress, a level would need to be completed.

  • Can my kids take classes together?

    Yes! We believe learning should be fun, engaging, and comfortable and what better way to learn than with their sibling. When registering your kids, please enroll them in the same course, level, and time. Please send a message informing us of your kid’s names and we will ensure they are in the same class!

  • Do you teach on national holidays?

    No, we do not teach on national holidays! Everybody get’s time to relax and take a break and so should our kids! Spend that time speaking Punjabi with your child through our parent conversation starters.

  • How long will it take to receive the binder?

    No matter when you have enrolled, all binders will be sent 2 weeks before the term starts!

  • Can the binder be delivered to any part in North America?

    Yes! Our program is for anyone living in North America; the Maa Boli binder will be delivered to you, regardless of where you live! We will deal with that, don’t worry, we ensure everything is delivered on time!

  • Do I have to buy extra learning material?

    No, Maa Boli provides all necessary learning material for all the courses after the student has registered for a course.

  • What is included in the binder?

    The Maa Boli Binder includes: a pencil case, flashcards, access to online game, and lesson review sheets. It is a fun and engaging way for kids to practice and review what was taught during class.

  • Who are the instructors at Maa Boli?

    The instructors at Maa Boli are native Punjabi speakers who love helping kids and have friendly and engaging personalities. While we hire from a variety of educational backgrounds, all tutors have a bachelor’s degree and understand student psychology. They're people you'd want to hang out with and talk to. We love our instructors, and we know you will too!

  • Are all instructors qualified?

    We select our instructors using the same rigorous criteria we would if choosing an instructor for our own kid. Our instructors are fluent in Punjabi and trained to teach in an online environment, delivering an optimum learning experience for your child! They are engaging, fun, smart, and encouraging!

  • Can I contact my child’s instructor?

    Although we do not provide our instructors email or phone number, you can definitely connect and speak with them! Towards the end of your child’s class just hop on the screen and say hi! We love parent feedback and would love to hear what you have to say!

  • What kind of content do instructors use?

    Instructors use pre-made lessons all of which have been created by our “Curriculum Development Team”! It includes slideshows, games, songs, videos, and MORE!

  • My instructor lost connection, what do I do now?

    On a rare occasion, if your instructor loses connection due to a technical issue, please wait a couple minutes and they will be back! This will not impact the learning material in anyway.

  • Do I need to download anything?

    There is nothing to download as our online classes will be taking place via zoom. You will be given the zoom link prior to the course starting and that link will take you directly to class!

  • Can my child attend the classes from their phone?

    We strongly recommend your child attends class from a laptop or desktop computer with a working microphone and camera. This will allow full engagement and an optimum learning experience. In the case that you are unable to use your laptop (broken, not connecting to Wi-Fi, etc.) you may use your iPad or phone but please ensure it is not distracting other kids in the class.

  • What do I need to use Maa Boli?

    For Maa Boli classes you will need a computer or laptop, stable internet connection, built-in or external camera and microphone. To access the online games provided with the binder, any device works!

  • What happens if the video freezes?

    We know Internet connections aren't perfect. If the video call drops or freezes, usually it will start up again by itself and the lesson continues. If it doesn’t, close your browser and reopen it and rejoin the lesson. Don’t hesitate to give us a call if you’re having issues and we can help troubleshoot. If a lesson is severely impacted by technology issues and you can’t resolve them, let us know.

  • How much does it cost?

    You can view our prices here. We provide you the option to either pay up front and save, or to pay the first of every month. For those enrolling in Maa Boli for the first time there will be a one-time enrollment fee of $40.

  • How do I pay for the classes?

    To book classes, you go to our register page and select a term, the course, the level and times. Once you select the days and time you will have to provide personal information (your email, child’s name, and child’s age). Finally, you will be asked to prepay for the courses using a debit or credit card.

  • Is there a sibling discount?

    No, we do not offer a sibling discount. We have limited spots in our classes therefore the price for each spot costs the same.

  • What are my payment options?

    You can pay with Paypal or Credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or American Express).

  • What credit cards do you accept?

    We accept all major credit cards including Visa, MasterCard, and American Express.

  • Can I get a refund if I have paid in full?

    Unfortunately, we cannot refund you your money if you have paid for a term. Your spot has been reserved for your child and we cannot give it to another child mid-way through.

  • What is your cancellation policy if I am paying monthly ?

    Keep in mind that when you register your child, we are saving that spot for them and taking away the opportunity from another child who may wish to join. We hope you don’t cancel but we also understand that life happens. If something arises and your child is no longer able to be a part of Maa Boli, please give us a 30-day notice.

  • Where do I get sent zoom link?

    A zoom link will be sent to your email a week before the course starts. The same link will be used for the entire term to access the Maa Boli classroom. See you there!

  • What happens in a Maa Boli class?

  • How do I prepare my child for their first lesson?

    Welcome to Maa Boli! Before your first lesson, please ensure you having a strong wifi connection, working microphone, working camera, and a browser that is compatible with zoom. An email will have been sent to you with zoom link, click on that and join! Let your child know it will be like school, where they get to learn with kids just like them. The best part? They will have a fun and welcoming instructor who understands and can relate to them! No judgement in the Maa Boli classroom!

  • How long are the classes?

    The duration of our class is 50 minutes. Perfect amount of time to for your child to learn and retain and not overwhelm them with information.

  • What happens if I miss a class?

    Classes are only twice a week, so please do try your best not to miss it. But we know situations arise, so if you do miss a class, please refer back to the email sent to you informing you of what was covered in class. Your child will also have the flashcards and lesson review sheets for the class in their binder, so practice with them! If they have any questions they can always speak to their instructor at the end of class.

  • Can I cancel/reschedule a class?

    Sorry, but this is just like school, the class will continue running as usual, and you cannot reschedule. If you miss the class, please refer back to the email sent to you informing you of what was covered in class. Your child will also have the flashcards and lesson review sheets for the class in their binder, so practice with them! If they have any questions they can always speak to their instructor at the end of class.

  • How do I get my kids and their cousins to be in one class?

    When registering your kids and their cousins, please enroll them in the same course, level, and time. Please send a message informing us of your child’s and their cousins names and we will ensure they are in the same class!

  • How will I know what my child is learning each class?

    After each lesson, you will receive an email from us, informing you what was covered during your child’s class. In addition, you can refer back to the lesson guide in your child’s binder for a recap of each lesson. Here you will find everything you need to know!

  • If my child can already speak and understand Punjabi, which course and level should he/she take?

    If your child can fully speak and understand Punjabi, then our Reading & Writing course is the way to go! By the end of this course, not only will your child be able to read and write Punjabi, but they will also be able to recite Japji Sahib. For more information about this course, click here!

  • How often should my child be practicing?

    Maa Boli recommends a total of 25 minutes of practice every single day. 15 minutes of practice by themselves and 10 minutes with their parents. With our flashcards, lesson review sheets, and online games, your child will strengthen their retention as they go about their lives. Parents its your turn to spend 10 minutes a day speaking Punjabi with your child!
